The first Open library (Bibliotheca, Smart Solution) is opening doors in Finland

The first Open Library, which Axiell Finland has delivered, is  opening on Tuesday  5th of February 14:30pm. in  Mietoinen village in  the city of Mynämäki. There are living 8.000 residents in Mynämäki and it’s  located in Varsinais-Suomi next to Turku. Mynämäki belongs to VASKI library  consortium.

Pirkko Sipilä, the librarian of Mynämäki tells the reasons why they  chose Open Library concept in Mynämäki  “ This library concept made  possible to open one of our office which has been closed during two years. With  this concept we can offer long open hours and our library is open also at  weekends."

So far  there isn’t similar concept as Open library in Finland. With this new concept,  libraries can continue their open hours, even keep libraries open through the  night. On Scandinavian level there are already about 80 Open libraries and  results have been positive.
