Hello world!

I am the emperor penguin Bowie, the mascot of Bowspirit Kids, on the beautiful Ekström Ice Shelf in the north of Antarctica near Neumayer-Station III.

You haven't heard from me for a while, because my human alter ego Michael was in hospital. But don't worry - he's fine again and so I can finally share my thoughts with you again.

Michael says the time in hospital was like a little present for him. Sounds weird, doesn't it?

Maybe you can imagine that Michael has been through a pretty tough work program in the last 18 months to get Bowspirit Kids started. It was a bit like being married - he fell asleep with the mission in the evening and in the morning when he woke up the first thought was there again. So much has to be organised, explained, further supporters have to be approached, texts have to be edited ... no thought on a break with a full to-do list.

The anaesthetist then explained to Michael briefly the effect of the anaesthetic Propofol - yes exactly: that's the stuff Michael Jackson unfortunately got a little too much off: Most people continue a nice thought before the anaesthesia as a dream. And what does Michael do? He dreams of penguins 🐧🐧🐧 ... but okay, I can imagine something really worse 😉.

When Michael was able to have a look around the clinic, two kids crossed his path:

An eight-year-old was there with her mother. You could see how scared she was to be there. Every adult - even if it was just a fellow patient - was observed with shy eyes.

And then there was a little worm - just six months old. You could see the professional tension in everyone involved: With this little patient everyone wanted to be even better than just good!

Michael got "re-aligned to north" by the experiences in hospital: For these and other sick kids' sake we set off - we as initiators and you as supporters. - We should always have them in mind when we tell our fellow men about Bowspirit Kids. It is solely up to each and every one of us to change their lives positively ...
