Press release -

Iconic Marius-pattern licensed to Norway’s national handball team sweatshirt

The iconic Marius pattern, “the Norwegian sweater pattern”, has been licensed to the Norwegian national handball team sweatshirt by Rights & Brands and Bulls Licensing. The new look team dress, to be worn by both men and women, will be launched by the women’s handball national team when meeting South Korea on November 23.

The new design national team sweatshirt is a play on Norwegian tradition and identity. The Marius pattern, traditionally used on knitted jumpers, is well known around the world, and a classic pattern in Norway. Since the design was launched in the fifties, it’s been a symbol of Norwegian outdoor life.

-Matching the launch to the women’s handball team game creates an exciting connection of values, says Rasmus Aarflot, Marketing Director, Norway Handball Federation (NHF). Every year, a few weeks before Christmas, the women handball games are traditionally seen by hundreds of thousands of Norwegians. Most of them will also, traditionally, have at least one Marius sweater at home.

The team sweatshirt has been developed in collaboration with NHF:s partner and supplier Umbro, together with Rights & Brands and Bulls Licensing, worldwide agents and representatives on behalf of the Marius pattern.

-This is a first-time sports licensing deal at this kind of level for us, says Kristin Tjulander, Sales and Marketing Director at Bulls Licensing. It is an excellent opportunity to create worldwide awareness for the Marius brand. We are incredibly proud of this unique collaboration.

-We are very happy with the design and making the national dress even more Norwegian than before. It’s been an exciting process to develop a completely new style, says Scantrade Sales Director Geir Nordahl.

-At Marius of Norway we are proud to have the Handball Federation choose our pattern for the national team sweatshirt. We think that the national handball teams skill and sporting efforts represent some of the best we have in Norwegian sport today, they have impressed and charmed all of Norway. The national handball teams are a great show of Norwegian sportsmanship and a super representative for the sports background of the Marius pattern. We are proud supporters and wish the teams the best of luck in the upcoming championships, says Vigdis Yran Dale, Director at Marius of Norway, proprietor of the Marius pattern.

The new national team sweater will be on sale for fans at Sotra Arena, Norway this weekend, and at NHF-shop.no

The Norway men’s national handball team will play their first game in the new sweater at Golden League in France, January 4, before the European Championships in Croatia.
