China: The Chinese ‘demonstration province’, Zhejiang Province, learns about utilizing renewable energy from the Danish Energy Agency

The Eastern Province of China, Zhejiang, has recently been nominated by the Chinese central government as the “demonstration province” for utilizing renewable energy and thus the Zhejiang Bureau of Energy visited Denmark to learn more about renewable energy and successful system design from the Danish Energy Agency (DEA).

The Chinese delegation, including Deputy Director of Zhejiang Province, WU Shengfeng, said of the mission: ”Zhejiang is applying for the first pilot province of Clean Energy Development in China. We would like to learn the overall policy, measurement and setup to promote the clean energy development in Zhejiang with two aspects concerned in particular:

  • Energy market regulation and the pricing mechanism, including the electricity trading system as part of Nord Pool. Zhejiang is looking at some decision making power on the provincial power market set up as a pilot province.
  • Offshore wind development and the supporting policy. Zhejiang is drafting its offshore wind development plan"

The two-hour meeting took place at the DEA’s premises and important subjects of discussion included: the Danish power market, Nord Pool and Offshore Wind in Denmark. Furthermore, the Danish presenters explained about the setup of the Danish energy policy and the aims for 2020 and 2050.
