Workshop on DEA’s bilateral cooperation

The Danish Energy Agency hosted an internal workshop on bilateral cooperation on energy issues from the 2-3 March 2015 where tasks, impacts and future challenges in DEA’s bilateral energy programmes with China, Mexico, Vietnam and South Africa were discussed. The workshop continued on the afternoon of the second day with a commercial session where more than 50 exporting green tech companies from Denmark were invited to share and discuss export experiences. The Danish Energy Agency’s (DEA) coordinators from the bilateral cooperation countries were all gathered in Copenhagen on the 2-3 March to discuss the progress of the cooperation. Country coordinators and partners from China, Mexico, South Africa and Vietnam, as well as the Danish Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Climate, Energy and Building attended the workshop where the present and future bilateral cooperation was discussed among the participants.

The Sino-Danish cooperation as an example

In 2015, DEA will expand its government-to-government cooperation to encompass Turkey, Indonesia and Ukraine to assist them in their energy transformation. The expansion is inter alia a result of the successful country cooperation with China, which has shown excellent results in the past three years, with the establishment of the China National Renewable Energy Centre (CNREC) that was launched in 2012.

Mr. Kaare Sandholt, the Danish Chief Expert at the China National Renewable Energy Centre, gave a presentation at the workshop where he shared his experiences to the participants on how to establish productive and sustainable relations between partners. He especially emphasised the importance of keeping long-term visions in order to make a sustainable change that matters.   

Workshop with exporters and commercial partners

The bilateral workshop was continued in the afternoon with a commercial session, which was attended by more than 50 green tech companies and other stakeholders who have an interest in Danish energy export. The session was opened with panel presentations from Vestas, Rockwool, the Confederation of Danish Industry, the Danish Investment Fund for Developing Countries and the Danish Board of District Heating who all shared their experiences and gave insights into the challenges and boundaries that Danish energy exporting companies face. The workshop finished with country table discussions, where attending companies had the opportunity to discuss more profoundly with the different country energy experts.
