CLICK Festival 2019 Lineup: From R&B and techno to classical minimalism, immersive sound art and performative concerts centered around the body

This year’s concert lineup spans two days. On Saturday, the focus is on meditative concert experiences followed by a high intensity evening of party and rave. The Sunday programme is dedicated to Julius Eastman, the forgotten composer who has had an extensive renaissance over the past years.

Highligts from this year’s lineup:

Rave, vogue and raging R&B and techno

Leikeli47 currently captivates venue after venue in the US and is an artist who undoubtedly performs at the biggest venues in a year, and who is regularly compared to big stars such as Cardi B and Missy Elliot. Leikeli47 is known for masked performances which combines hiphop and R&B but who also appeals to the popular ball room culture where the vogue scene has welcomed the artist with arms open.

In addition to this, one of the leading figures of the international vogue scene, HOUSE OF KENZO, pays us a visit with their pop-up rave party. The no. 1 boyband of techno, THE EMPIRE LINE, turns up the heat with CHRISTIAN STADSGAARD from Post Isolation, Swedish VARG and Danish IRON SIGHT. Also the critically acclaimed NKISI visits the festival and from Virginia we welcome PRISON RELIGION, who collaborates with Danish MAJI CLAIRE from Disturbing Business on an extraordinary concert performance. On the up-tempo side, South African DJ LAG attains distinction and has recently become a pioneer within the genre GQOM; a dance-friendly club culture originating in the Durban area of South Africa.

Horizontal sonic experiences

Besides this, it is also possible to experience a wide range of pioneers within more abstract electronic universe. 82-year-old Argentinian BEATRIZ FERREYRA comes to the festival with her seductive sonic landscapes, performed in surround sound for a recumbent audience. The Japanese vocalist PHEW performs the material of her critically acclaimed album VOICE HARDCORE, and DREW MCDOWALL presents COIL’s legendary TIME MACHINES.

A Marginalized Composer

On Sunday, you can experience no less than three performances dedicated to the late composer JULIUS EASTMAN. The program is presented in collaboration with MAYHEM, ALICE and THE LAKE and focuses on a momentous artist who was marginalized in his time.

During his career, Eastman wrote a number of minimalist works who explored both alternative instrumentation as well as themes connected to his homosexual and African American background. These works made him one of the US’ grand underground composers, and pirate recordings flourished extensively on cassette tapes among his followers.

The three works are performed by the highly reputable British ensemble APARTMENT HOUSE, who performs ‘Feminine', the Swedish vocalist Sofia Jernberg plays ‘Prelude To The Holy Presence of Joan D’Arc’, and Jace Clayton, aka DJ RUPTURE presents reconstructed versions ‘Gay Gorilla’ and ‘Evil Nigger’ accompanied by two pianists.
