Six new acts ready for Tinderbox

Pressemeddelelse   •   Jan 22, 2018 10:00 CET

The festival's new tent stage will be visited by The Breeders, Jamie Lawson and more

Last year, Tinderbox launched a stage which made room for new Danish talents such as Chinah, Gilli, and Saveus, as well as the three winners of the Tinderbox Band Battle music contest, which was made in collaboration with local venues Kansas City, Musikhuset Posten, and Studenterhuset.

The outdoor stage will this year be replaced with a tent stage, which holds 1,500 guests, who will experience a good mix of well-known international acts and new Danish talents. Here are the first six acts for the new stage:

The former Pixies bassist, Kim Deal, has fronted the band The Breeders since 1989, four years before they released the single "Cannonball". The song stands as one of the most distinctive songs from the 90's alternative rock wave, and when the album "Last Splash" came out, it quickly sold a million copies and is now considered an indie classic. Kim Deal’s twin sister, Kelley Deal, is also a part of The Breeders, and together the sisters tore through a show at Store Vega in October, which GAFFA gave five stars under the heading "Gigantic garage rock". We hope for the same level of success, when The Breeders returns to Denmark this summer.

It took about 15 years from Jamie Lawson released his first songs online until he became the first musician to sign a contract with Ed Sheeran's record company Gingerbread Man Records. However, it was worth the wait, and since then Lawson has had a huge hit with the single "Wasn’t Expecting That" and the release of the album "Jamie Lawson", which went to number one on the British album chart. Recently, the songwriter has released the album "Happy Accidents", but despite his great success, the talented singer has been a very rare guest on the Danish stages. However, this will happily be remedied now that he is getting ready to play Tinderbox.

The Danish trio Off Bloom was until recently a largely unknown quantity on the Danish music scene. They had focused on writing and recording music in secret, but the limelight was set right on them, when they decided to have the world premiere of the single "Love To Hate It" on live TV during P3 Guld. After their performance, the single became P3’s Unavoidable Track of the Week, and the band received a nice review in the Soundvenue, where the trio was favorably compared to MØ and called "Underground pop for the charts". After concerts at Glastonbury, Reading, and Leeds, Off Bloom is undoubtedly one of the Danish acts with the most winds in its sails right now, and it will definitely be amazing to see the young stars at Tinderbox for the first time.

The 24-year-old songwriter IAMJJ tackles some off the biggest subjects in life in his heartfelt songs. The melancholy is ubiquitous in IAMJJ's remarkable music, which has an impressive international sound for such a young Dane. IAMJJ has been on the line-up for P6 BEAT Rocker, SPOT, and NorthSide, where the audience was completely mesmerized by his fascinating universe in songs like "Bloody Future" and "You In My Arms". So, it will be exciting to present this unique talent this summer.
IAMJJ will play Thursday 28th of June at Tinderbox 2018

The debut album from Velvet Volume was released in the fall of 2017, but before that they had already recorded with The Blue Van, performed at the Crown Prince's award show, played at NorthSide and P6 BEAT Rocker, and been on the cover of GAFFA. The album "Look Look Look!" got great reviews, but the hard-hitting trio is their true selves at their concerts, and the songs always get a bit wilder, when the sisters are allowed to go all out on the stage. You will enjoy this experience.

Bisse got his breakthrough in 2016 with "Højlandet", which both secured him five awards at Steppeulven alongside comparisons to C.V. Jørgensen and David Bowie. But instead of resting on his laurels, the colorful bohemian created a retrospective look at his youth in the 90s on the album, "19.6.87", which once again had the reviewers digging deep into the thesaurus to find new ways to praise the unique songwriter. Bisse is unlike anything else on the Danish music scene right now, and we look forward to his first concert at Tinderbox.

With the six new acts for Tinderbox and the addition of Iggy Pop last week, there are now 23 acts on the line-up and more acts will be added later this week.
