European Commission- LIFE Project, visits NLAB Solar's Pilot Plant

On March 15, 2013, NLAB Solar had the opportunity to host representatives from the European Commission, LIFE+ Unit. Mr. Stefan Welin, Technical Desk Officer and Mr. Stefan Foersch, Financial Desk Officer from European Commission, and Mr. Pekka Hänninen, Monitoring Consultant from Astrale GEIE-ELLE, visited NLAB Solar's main office, NLAB Solar's site of the pilot project, situated at the heart of Stockholm.

Since 2007, EU Member States represented on the LIFE Committee and the European Commission’s LIFE Unit have granted financial support to numerous projects in the region. These projects are selected based on their contribution to immediate and long-term environmental, economic and social improvements; degree of innovation and transferability; relevance to policy; and cost-effectiveness.

In August 2010, NLAB Solar secured a EUR 1.7 million grant from the European Commission to build Sweden’s first pilot plant for production of third generation solar cells. With the support of the EU LIFE financial instrument, NLAB Solar is currently constructing this pilot plant in Stockholm and the plant is expected to be operationally ready by 2014.
