Fältcom chosen to supply IoT devices to Neste’s SmartTruck service, in cooperation with Telia

Neste and Telia have joined forces to create smarter mobility solutions for the logistic needs of their customers. As a first step, Fältcom’s IoT devices will be used for the SmartTruck service.

Due to growing consumer needs and digitalization, the transportation of people and goods is undergoing unprecedentedly rapid change. At the same time, the logistics sector is increasingly faced with demands for reducing emissions. For example, earlier this month the European Commission proposed legislation that would require carbon dioxide emissions from heavy traffic to be cut by 30% by the year 2030.

With these needs in mind, Neste and Telia are joining forces to develop solutions for the logistics needs of their customers.

“There has been a lot of talk about the revolution in transportation, and it’s happening here and now. Our business customers have been waiting for new solutions that both reduce emissions and improve business efficiency. Through collaboration with Telia, we can offer an ever broader range of services to our customers,” tells Mika Hyötyläinen, Vice President of Marketing for Marketing & Services business area at Neste.

Neste SmartTruck for smarter transportation

The first outcome of the cooperation between the two companies is the Neste SmartTruck service for heavy traffic which is based on Fältcom’s IoT device. It allows companies to use a single interface to access numerous applications, including fuel consumption optimization, tachograph data transfer automation, and mobile refueling for professional drivers.

"The concept is loaded with smart services to streamline and make it safer for the drivers. One example is fuel saving through eco-driving, but also through Neste's app which uses GPS positioning to refer the driver to the next available gas station, a gas pump is allocated, and the pump is remotely activated for refueling. The cost is then automatically deducted from the company's credit card without having to handle money or cards. Safe and smart, "says Mikael Långström, CEO at Fältcom.

“Neste SmartTruck has been designed as a platform of the future for new features and applications. It is the first common step towards new types of services. The digitalization of heavy traffic has just begun, with very real prospects for increased security and a great deal more”, Hyötyläinen continues.
