In the beginning of March, the first shuttle for Årsta left from Älmhult and Torsvik under the new contract with IKEA Transport & Logistics Services. The shuttle runs six days per week and supplies goods to department stores and warehouses in the greater Stockholm and Uppsala areas.

Holmen has taken a new step in its sustainable strategy work. Holmen’s largest forest holdings are located in northern Sweden, while much of its industrial production takes place in the south. To secure its wood supply and add value to its own forest, Holmen is now going to be transporting its wood south on trains from Green Cargo.

The Swedish Transport Administration is building the West Link to create a railway for commuter and regional trains in a tunnel under central Gothenburg. Green Cargo is transporting around 8,600 tonnes of sheet piling to the tunnel site, removing almost 370 truckloads from roads to and within central Gothenburg.

SSAB has given Green Cargo its continued trust in handling the crucial flow of steel ingots and finished products between SSAB’s plants in Luleå, Borlänge and Oxelösund. The new agreement goes into effect on January 1, 2020 and extends at least five years beyond that.

In mid-November, Green Cargo began installing a new type of brake disc that will be tested on mail wagons over the winter. If the project is successful, more wagons will have their brake discs replaced.

The most efficient way to reduce climate impact from transportation is to transfer freight from the road network to the railways. In October, Mellanskog and Green Cargo entered a new partnership agreement under which woodchips will now be transported by rail instead of by road. This will result in safe, more efficient and more environmentally friendly shipments.

Volvo Cars’ sustainability day in Gothenburg on Thursday concluded with awarding the international Volvo Cars Quality of Excellence prize. Several hundred participants from all over the world were there, including Marcus Wiklund and Clas Svensson from Green Cargo. Along with the other nominated suppliers, Green Cargo had the honor of accepting the Volvo Cars prize.

The Government has resolved to create a national freight transport advisory council, tasked with contributing to efforts to promote efficient, high capacity and sustainable freight transportation, and with implementing the freight transport strategy.
