Social Innovation in Practice

With every passing day, society faces new challenges. Explosive population growth, mass urbanization and aging populations are changing our world before our very eyes. We need innovation: we need new ways to treat chronic medical conditions, prevent crime, improve communications, predict system failures, and more.

Each of Hitachi’s technologies improves quality of life in a particular way, from transportation infrastructure to clean water, Smart Grids to data centers capable of organizing and storing vast quantities of unstructured data.

But when you bring it all together, you get something greater than the sum of its parts. You begin to see a technological landscape that can truly address some of the huge challenges that humanity faces worldwide.

You begin to see Social Innovation in practice.

Social Innovation means bringing together advanced technologies in many fields in a way that lets them interoperate intelligently, and improving quality of life at a systemic level.

It’s a big concept to grasp, which is why we’ve created this image of the Social Innovation landscape. It’s a city of the future – but that future is closer than you might think. Hitachi already produces every technology depicted in this landscape. It’s only when you bring them all together that they attain critical mass and you can begin to see the incredible future that we’re building.

This type of change will bring us to smart cities and a better quality of life worldwide. It means refining technologies and developing new ones to meet tomorrow's challenges, creating value that will last for future generations.

It means always striving towards the goal of Hitachi's Social Innovation Business: to drive innovation and "Inspire the Next."
