Swire Hotels Supports Earth Hour 2011 and Go Beyond

Swire Hotels including The Opposite House, Beijing; The Upper House and EAST, Hong Kong will participate in Earth Hour 2011 at 8.30 pm on 26 March, 2011 (Saturday). Earth Hour is a global event created by the people for the planet, and the commitment made goes beyond one hour. It symbolises what can happen when the world acts together, and in celebration of the planet's future.

Each of the hotels will turn off selective lights to include decorative, façade and back office lighting. Guests will be informed of the initiative via iPod touch® and TVs and also by the Guest Experience Teams.

Swire Hotels commits to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly hotels in an economically and socially responsible way. Beyond Earth Hour, it is conscious of making a positive difference to the environment by, among other initiatives, remaining as paperless as possible. Swire Hotels has taken various environmental measures in the hotel operations on daily basis including Paperless check-In/out; iPod touch® or TV in every room replacing printed hotel directories. There is also the use of energy saving Lexus RX450H hybrid cars at The Upper House and daily e-newspaper upload on iPod touch® at EAST, Hong Kong.

“Swire Hotels has given great consideration to the preferences of our guests and the effect our practices have on the environment. By utilizing the most up to date technology, Swire Hotels is committed to ongoing sustainable environmental practices and our guests will be encouraged to take part in our preferences,” said Brian Williams, Managing Director of Swire Hotels.
