Classic journey to the vintage age of Indonesia, at Seruput

Old time classic music, both pop and dangdut styles, was playing cheerfully when we arrived. The journey to experience the taste of the archipelago nourishment has begun. Just opened recently in January, Seruput, which located at Kuta Town Square ready to bring delightful atmosphere to live up the town. Along with the back sound of oldies songs, we looked at the newspaper-looking menu. The menu was written in vintage Betawi language, one of the original ethnic groups in Jakarta. “Hari ini bayar, besok gratis!” written on the corner side of the menu, which means “Pay today, food for free tomorrow!” Therefore you must come back.

We had Tekwan, savoury fish cake soup with crunchy Bengkoang and Tuberose flower. The flower in the soup gave chewy and sour taste, which we found unique. Another dish was Sate Maranggi, soft sweet and spicy beef satay served on a charcoal pot to keep it fresh and crunchy, we ate it with sweet soy sauce, kecap, and sliced of tomatoes, onion and garlic with pounded black pepper. It is a simple, but tasty dish. Beside that we had Es Campur, eccentric fruit and jelly with simple syrup and milk, topped with crushed ice. And to end the journey with sweet touch, we had rainbow bread with vanilla ice cream, Es Kayak di Orchard.

The menu was rich of traditional dining options from all over Indonesia, Tekwan famous from Sumatra, Sate Maranggi from West Java, Es Campur from Betawi. It is the place where you can experience the taste of Indonesia. Liselotte.
