Press release -

beActive’s “Road to Revolution” at Raindance 2013

September 4th 2013

beActive’s recently produced transmedia documentary "Road to Revolution" has been confirmed for screening at the UK’s Raindance Film Festival, in London with a screening scheduled for Saturday, 28th September, at Vue Cinema Piccadilly, at 5.30 pm. The documentary presents the consequences of the Arab Spring movement from the point of view of three journalists who were on the ground: Tiago Carrasco (reporter), João Fontes (cameraman) and João Henriques (photographer).

“Road to Revolution” is the conclusion of a long, arduous journey which started in January 2012 as a trip through North Africa and the Middle East and the project engages the audience through social media profiles, blogs, webisodes and hundreds of photographs as well as through a traditional documentary feature film.

Using more than 200 hours of footage, shot during four months in ten different countries – Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco – the result is a 90-minute documentary and two 52-minute TV episodes, as well as a book already published in Portugal. The “Road to Revolution” also has an application for tablets and smartphones, (currently in development) which will complete the experience, allowing access to additional content such as photos, videos and important information about the geography, history and culture of each country featured.

beActive debuted the TV version of “Road to Revolution” at MIPDOC 2013 in Cannes and is currently negotiating licensing deals with more than 30 broadcasters around the world. At a time when these regions, particularly Egypt and Syria, have been hit by violence once again, beActive’s documentary remains current and pertinent, helping to spread a more intimate and personal vision of the events that took place and to better understand the struggle happening in Arab countries.

Speaking from Dublin, Dânia Lucas, “Road to Revolution” director said: ‘We are really thrilled to be the only co-production and only Irish project in official selection at Raindance’s Film Festival, we are really grateful to the organisers for giving us this platform to introduce more people to the Road to Revolution project and the whole team are looking forward to the screening”.
