From Dublin to Beijing: beActive’s Triona Campbell confirmed as speaker at StoryDrive Asia

Beijing, May 29th 2014: beActive’s Triona Campbell will present at this year’s prestigious StoryDrive Asia a conference dedicated to exploring new forms of collaboration across all media organized by the Frankfurt International Academy (Frankfurt Book Fair). This is the first time an Irish company has been invited to present at the conference, which takes place at the Chinese National Convention center in Beijing May 28th – June 1st.

Triona is representing beActive Books, the Dublin-based book-packaging unit of beActive International, that focus on “sci-fi”, “adventure” and “chick lit”-style novels created for teenage and young adult audiences. In the last 10 years, beActive Books has been successfully exploring ancillary platforms and expanding its brands through the traditional and digital publishing markets.

Thanks to a team of experienced and award-winning writers, beActive has already sold more than one million copies worldwide, based on its properties and also conquering millions of fans on the Wattpad and Movellas networks. beActive’s bestselling book series includes “Sofia’s Diary”, “Aisling’s Diary”, “Mariana’s Secret Diary”, “Dark Siege”, “Bia & Fred”, “Beat Girl”, “Made with Love” and the “Collider’s Graphic Novel”. More recently the company has been exploring new ways to digital book distribution and audience engagement on social media.

Triona Campbell will present at StoryDrive Asia case studies on two beActive’s EMMY nominated properties, ‘Collider’ and ‘Beat Girl’. As part of the talks Triona will give an insight into the business models of commercial transmedia projects and also show ways of translating existing IP from books to multiple platforms, in order to expand audiences and create entertainment brands. Both COLLIDER and BEAT GIRL multiplatform properties started as books and based on their success they were able to cross to other medias, as TV, Videogames and Feature Films.

Speaking from Dublin Triona said ‘China is somewhere we’ve always kept an eye on because of their innovation in all industries. It’s an absolute honor to be invited to speak there and I hope we can make a few new friends along the way’.

‘Beat Girl’ is based on the chic lit novel written by Jasmina Kallayand was the first series to be launched on the photo sharing website Pinterest and with interaction from the audience, the Beat Girl universe expanded from Pinterest to include books, webisodes, apps, soundtracks and now a TV series nominated for the best international kids series at the 2013 EMMY Awards.  

The ‘Collider’ project was launched in the summer of 2012 with the released a series of six digital comics, expanded into motion comics, followed by a mobile game, a prequel Web series and a motion picture. A sequel is already in the works, while the project was nominated for best digital drama at the 2014 International EMMY Awards.
