Decathlon opens first Scandinavian store in Stockholm

On Friday November 25th Decathlon, the world’s largest sports retailer, opens its first Scandinavian store in Stockholm. The store marks the  beginning of an expansion in the region.

“We are delighted to finally open the first Scandinavian store in Stockholm. It is a great, stable market for retailers and a strategic investment for us. We regard this as the natural starting point for an expansion in the region” says Guido Monferrini, Country Manager Sweden for Decathlon.

Decathlon is owned by French Oxylane Group, founded in 1976, and currently established in 18 countries. The company is famous for offering the customers possibilities of trying different sports and products in the stores.

Stockholm Business Region Development and Invest Sweden provided assistance during the establishment process.

“We welcome Decathlon to Stockholm, an exciting newcomer to the retail market in Stockholm. This is in general a strong sector in Stockholm. We have a great domestic buying and there is an increasing interest from foreign retailers and brands” says Olof Zetterberg, CEO of Stockholm Business Region.

“There is a demand for new international retail concepts and we are happy that Decathlon has chosen Sweden at the first entry point in Scandinavia. Sport and leisure activities are popular  in Sweden  and the growth in this sector has been strong”, says Anna Hammarberg, Retail Investment Advisor, Invest Sweden
