Press release -

Continued strong growth in Stockholm

Stockholm’s business community continues to develop positively in the first quarter of 2015. Wages show increased growth in both Stockholm County and city, compared with the same quarter in 2014. The number of startup companies also grew by 10 percent in the city during the first quarter. These are the results of Stockholmskonjunkturen’s first report for 2015.

Employment also continues to develop positively. Employment in the county rose by 2.5 percent, and in the city by 1.3 percent, compared with the first quarter last year. While the number of notices of impending layoffs increased, unemployment fell in both the county and city in the same period.

Business creation continued to increase and in total, 6,283 new companies were registered in the county, 3,853 of which are in the city. This entails a 10 percent increase in business creation in the city.

“Stockholm is showing continued strong growth in both the county and city. Business is growing and more and more startups are creating jobs, which is encouraging and important for the city’s continued growth,” says Olle Zetterberg, CEO of Stockholm Business Region.

Over the past four quarters, the county has gained over 33,600 more residents, 13,200 of whom are in the city.
