Stockholm concentrates efforts on attracting international talent

The City of Stockholm is now joining up with the region’s tech sector and companies like Spotify, Klarna and iZettle to attract international talent to Stockholm. To meet the city’s growing recruitment needs, the Twitter account @movetostockholm is launching with the goal of providing a better picture of what it’s like to live and work in Stockholm.

Stockholm is one of the world’s most innovative and knowledge-intensive regions. Successful companies like Spotify, Skype and King have contributed to Stockholm’s evolution into a global start-up hub in the technology sector. Today, Stockholm has the most “unicorns”, companies valued at over USD 1 billion, per capita in the world second to Silicon Valley.

The success of the city’s start-up sector has in turn given rise to growing recruitment needs and a demand to be able to attract leading global expertise. In response to this development, the initiative @movetostockholm is now underway, which involves the city and companies joining forces to attract international talent via Twitter.

“Stockholm has the potential to become a global talent magnet in the tech sector. With this initiative, the city and industry are joining forces to make a concerted effort to strengthen this development,” says Olle Zetterberg, CEO of Stockholm Business Region.

The @movetostockholm Twitter account is jointly curated by Stockholm Business Region and the city’s tech companies, which will take turns telling more about their respective recruitment needs. Initially, ambassadors from ten companies who have already decided to move to Stockholm will also talk more about what it is like to live and work here. The ten companies are Spotify, iZettle, Tictail, Klarna, Truecaller, Instabridge, King, Lifesum, Fishbrain and Dice.

“Stockholm has an unusually strong tech scene with cutting-edge companies in terms of both product development and working conditions. In addition, Stockholm is among the highest ranked cities in the world for quality of life. We really have everything the best talent demands. We just have to get better at expressing it,” says Katarina Berg, VP Global HR, Spotify.

The @movetostockholm initiative is part of Stockholm Business Region’s comprehensive work to expand Stockholm’s attractiveness to international talent, which has been ongoing since 2012.
