The world’s top songwriters gather in Stockholm

The Swedish capital strengthens its position as the powerhouse of sound as the world’s top songwriters gather in Stockholm for the Stockholm Songwriting Camp.

On Sunday, the Stockholm Songwriting Camp celebrates its three year anniversary with 45 of the world’s brightest writers and producers from 12 countries taking part. With its opening, the Swedish capital strengthens its position as a global hub for the world’s most successful artists, music producers and music tech startups. With major initiatives like Dennis Pop Awards, the Polar Music PrizeStockholm Songwriting Camp, and more than 25 successful music tech companies coming from Stockholm, the city acts like an incubator for the global music industry.

"We see a lot of innovation happening in Stockholm in the area of music creation including companies focusing on helping artists manage and control their music. This, in combination with Sweden being one of the biggest exporters of music in the world, makes Stockholm a great hub for music creators and lovers. Stockholm Songwriting Camp plays an important role in this ecosystem", says Anna Gissler, CEO of Invest Stockholm, partner to the camp.

Participants in this year’s songwriting camp include: Maegan Cottone (UK), Era Istrefi (XK), NEIKED (SE), SHY Martin (SE), KREAM (NO), MADDEN (NO), KiDi (GH), Hitimpulse (DE) and Ana Diaz (SE). Participants are behind works of artists like Katy Perry, Sam Smith, Lorde, The Chainsmokers, Zara Larsson, Ed Sheeran, Icona Pop and Adam Lambert.

"We have received an incredible response globally and it feels great that, for the third year, we receive some of the world’s top songwriters. We will continue to pursue our vision of creating new opportunities for music creators worldwide and an equal music industry without borders. This year we have as many females as males attending and more female producers than we have had previously", says Niclas Molinder, founder of Stockholm Songwriting Camp.

Stockholm Songwriting Camp takes place from January 29 to February 2 at Pop House in Stockholm. This year’s camp is the largest yet with an extra writing day and impressive program for the initiative SC Talks, which will discusses gender equality with an international focus. Amateur songwriters have the possibility to receive feedback from a professional jury during SC Feedback Session on Sunday 29. Submissions are open until January 28.
