Winners of Stockholm Innovation Scholarship 2016 appointed

This year’s winners of the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship represent innovative solutions for highly topical challenges and societal problems. This involves everything from innovations that will revolutionize how we consume and produce food in the city to a new aid to facilitate communication with traumatized children. In total, six recipients will share SEK 630,000.

On Tuesday, Mayor of Stockholm Karin Wanngård (S) presented the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship to six recipients at a ceremony at Stockholm City Hall.

“The Innovation Scholarship was instated to encourage ideas and creative development. Stockholm is one of the world’s most innovative cities; it is crucial for our ability to attract investments and companies. Many ideas lead to the development of new services and products and the creation of more companies, which is good for growth and jobs. This is a way to recognize and foster creativity and entrepreneurship,” says Mayor of Stockholm Karin Wanngård (S).

The scholarship is divided into six categories. Here are the 2016 winners in each category. See the jury's motivations in the attached PDF file.

Tourism Industry
Viking Line Boat Transfer: A collaboration between Ressel Rederi and Viking Line provides a fast and safe transfer to Djurgården and Stockholm City.
Recipient: Elias Nilsson

Cultural & Creative Industries
Those who affected me: Fabric meets new technology in this interactive, light-emitting textile installation that invites the public to influence its appearance through movement.
Recipient: Malin Bobeck

Life Sciences
Backrefresh seating system: A chair that relieves back pain and cures and prevents disc herniation.
Recipients: Tommi Rinne, Karri Suddenbach

Cleantech
Grönska: A space-efficient cultivation system for indoor use for locally produced herbs and vegetables. The goal is to revolutionize how we consume and produce food in the city.
Recipients: Natalie de Brun Skantz, Robin Lee, Petter Olsson

Tech
FineCell: Supplies an environmentally friendly technology for less expensive manufacturing of renewable and safe nanomaterials, and with higher quality than the industry has previously offered.
Recipients: Dongfang Li, Jonatan Henschen, Monica Ek

Everyday Products
Mediating objects: A series of tactile objects with different material qualities aiming to help children find their own words during therapy.
Recipient: Martha Brauer.

During the awards ceremony, the Agne Johansson Memorial Fund Foundation (Stiftelsen Agne Johanssons Minnesfond), which makes the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship possible, announced plans to make the Acceleration Scholarship an annual award. Previous years' winners of the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship can apply for the Acceleration Scholarship, which aims to encourage people to further develop or scale up their innovations.
