The Sony World Photography Awards is a showcase for some of the most amazing photographic talent across the globe. The exhibition showcases more than 330 incredible images compiled from all the shortlisted photographers in each of the 12 professional categories and nine amateur categories.

The PRP award was created to highlight the importance of the rainforests with regard to climate change and to increase awareness of the Prince's Rainforests Project (founded by HRH Prince Charles). The winning professional photographer from this category and has been selected for a fully-funded project to document the rainforest regions of the world.

The Campaign award was also introduced this year and is aimed at amateur photographers to bring together the global obsession for football (i.e. soccer for you Americans) with the enthusiasm and passion of photography. A single image was chosen that captures the beauty and spirit of football in unexpected places, with this year’s winner having the chance of being one of the photographers used in Sony Europe’s 2009 digital imaging marketing campaign work.

The highlight of the week, of course, has been the awards ceremony gala dinner where the L’Iris D’Or winner, the Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year, was announced.
