Lilaas brings integration under control

Lilaas AS is introducing new versions of its electronically-controlled LO1 lever technology, first launched in September 2012, which include integration in their electronics that the company believes is unique in the marine market.  The additions complete a portfolio of solutions to meet wide-ranging operator requirements for azimuth, thruster and propulsion control.

Developed in-house by the Lilaas design team, the new versions are distinguishable from the over-arching LO1 lever profile. However, rather than the resulting ‘operator-friendly’ feel, Lilaas is drawing attention to the ground-breaking integrated electronics shaft system within the new models.

Terje Akerholt, Lilaas Sales and Marketing Manager, says: “This will give end users and system integrators a number of significant advantages. When an electronic shaft system is used to control the motors a large external box is also needed, one for each lever, which is a very expensive solution. With the latest option for the LO1 we will be able to deliver levers with motors and electronic shaft system integrated.”

As well as significant space savings and a reduction in cabling and hardware costs, the solution will simplify maintenance. Furthermore it will make the LO1 lever more easily assimilated into customer systems. Mr Akerholt says: “It is expensive and sometimes complex for customers to develop and maintain their own electronic shaft system. Using our new integrated solution, this is no longer required.”

The electronic LO1 lever, which is available with or without a display, communicates either via an open CAN BUS protocol or standard analogue signals. Lilaas has already prepared LO1 hardware for other interfaces, including Profibus, Ethernet and USB, and the final software solutions for these options will be developed in collaboration with customers.

Mr Akerholt says: "We now have such a big range of LO1 levers, extending from units having a simple potentiometer to others with highly sophisticated integrated electronics solutions. However, as always, we are ready to customise, to meet very specific operational needs.”
