Mentice AB today announced that Huddinge University Hospital has chosen the Procedicus® VA system for arthroscopy training education at a clinical training center. This center will focus on simulation based clinical training, which will increase the safety and availability of clinical teaching methods. “Huddinge University Hospital and Mentice AB will collaborate in adopting and assessing simulation-based training in current and future surgical education, according to Kjell Thor M.D., Ph. D., FACS, Market Director, Huddinge University Hospital. “This is an important step in the implementation of Virtual Reality-based simulator technology. Due to reasons like patient safety, cost efficiency and objective skill assessment there is a need for new methods in surgical education, and simulation is definitely the way to go” says Jonas Ohlsson, Sales Manager, Mentice AB.
Procedicus® VA (Virtual Arthroscopy) provides a safe and convenient way to educate and train in arthroscopic procedures. The first released module focuses on minimally invasive shoulder surgery (arthroscopy). With Procedicus® VA, surgeons, residents, students and physicians alike can practice arthroscopy and hone their skills in a fully realistic environment. Working with Procedicus® VA is virtually identical to working with actual equipment and patients, the primary difference being that the image the surgeon views is computer generated instead of transmitted from a fiber optic camera inside the shoulder. The arthroscopy trainer is geared towards surgical residents who wish to specialize in orthopaedics, practicing orthopaedic surgeons who wish to adopt arthroscopic approaches to shoulder surgery, and device developers who wish to educate their customers in arthroscopic approaches to shoulder surgery.
