TEDxYouth@NIST: Giving Youth a Voice

On Saturday, 5 September NIST will host the inaugural TEDxYouth@NIST event: Voices. In addition to featuring several NIST students who will talk about their passions and desire to bring about positive changes in the world, the event will include talks from several other noted figures: Praya Lungberg, actress and NIST alumna; Patrick Newell, co-founder of TEDxTokyo and Tokyo International School; Abria Joseph, yoga guru and inspirational speaker; and Jarutat Snidwongse Na Ayuthaya, social change advocate and NIST alumnus.

Only a small number of tickets are left through EventBrite, and we encourage all those who will attend to contribute a voluntary donation of THB 500 to help sustain the event in the future. For more information about TEDxYouth@NIST or to reserve tickets, visit the website.

Reminder: Session 1 ECAs Begin 31 August

This session over 1,200 students enrolled in ECAs, all starting next week. We hope they all enjoy their first week of ECAs!

Falcon Friendship U19 Soccer & Volleyball Tournament

Come out to support the NIST Falcons varsity volleyball and football players at the Falcon Friendship U19 Soccer and Volleyball Tournament. NIPTA will also be hosting a sausage sizzle to support the event from 2:30 – 5.30 PM. Keep an eye on the Falcon sports blog for full schedule details.

NIPTA Needs You!

To those that have already stepped up and volunteered, many thanks. As mentioned before, we will be in touch in the coming days and invite you to a meeting when will explain how and when we need you to help us.

We still need help though, so please consider getting involved.

For Executive Committee:

  • NIPTA Secretary – to handle all aspects of communication within our group and with parent community.
  • Secondary Parent Volunteer Coordinator - to represent the Secondary School within NIPTA and work with other parents to support our Secondary kids.

For Elementary School, and as per Mr. Brett's email explaining new approach, we would like to secure 3 parent volunteers per year level. We are set for each year level, except:

  • Early Years - we need 2 parent volunteers;

For Secondary School, we would like to secure 1 parent per year level and are still looking for volunteers for the following years:

  • Year 7

Country Groups Update

Country groups are a great way to connect, find additional support and network with other NIST families who share similar languages and cultural backgrounds.You can find more information about them here.

Please note that we will be meeting with our country group representatives next week on Friday 28 August from 8:45 - 10:00 AM at the 4th floor of The Hub.

We are still looking for representatives for the following groups: New Zealand and Dutch Speaking. Please be in touch with nipta_countrygroupliaison@nis.ac.th if interested.

Finally, we are excited to announce that a new Russian language group has been formed, as well as a group from the Philippines. If you are interested in becoming a member, please send an email to NISTRussianSpeakers@gmail.com or nistphilippines@gmail.com.


NIPTA Breakfast Hosted by the Thai Community

We welcome all teachers and parents to join us for a Thai-style breakfast on Tuesday, 1 September  from 7:30 – 10:00 AM in the Chalongkwan Room (ground floor of the Elementary Building). A variety of traditional Thai-style breakfast, snacks, and refreshments will be available.


NIPTA U.S./Canada Country Team School Year Kickoff Event

The NIPTA U.S./Canada Country Team will be hosting their first social event of the 2015-16 school year with a casual gathering on Thursday, September 3rd at Margarita Storm from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. This is a great chance to meet up with other NIST parents in a relaxed off-campus setting. Margarita Storm is conveniently located on Sukhumvit Soi 13 by the Sofitel and is easily accessible by the BTS at Nana or Asok stations. The event is free and the restaurant is offering us 99 baht pints of draft beer or a glass of wine until 7:00 PM. To reserve a spot, please RSVP to nistusacanada@gmail.com by Tuesday, September 1st so we can give the restaurant an accurate headcount.


NIPTA Sausage Sizzle on Friday, 4 September

Come support Falcon athletes at the Falcon Friendly Varsity Volleyball and Football Tournament on Friday, 4 September.

The sausage sizzle will take place from 2:30 - 5:30 PM. We are also looking for volunteers to help out on the day. Please e-mail nipta.nist@gmail.com to express your interest.


NIPTA Gourmet Cooking Club

NIPTA Gourmet Cooking Club is delighted to invite you to join our Indian cooking class. Our skilled parents from Indian Country Group will not only teach us how to make samosas with green chutney and chicken kebabs, but will also show us how these chicken kebabs can be made into chicken curry and then how chicken curry can be used for biryani.

  • Date: Wednesday, 16 September 2015
  • Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon in the CAB Kitchen, ground floor.
  • Fee: THB 500 per person

Walk in the Park

Khun Zai and Khun Lek are leading the charge with morning walks in Lumpini Park. Join them on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:00 AM on the deck in front of the main cafeteria for departure. 

You will take the school shuttle service to Asok MRT so that you can MRT to Lumpini Park. Alternatively, depending on numbers and car availability, car pooling might be an option. Kick off (or walk off) is this coming Monday, 24 August.

There are some tupperware and dishes left over from Teacher Appreciation Day this past May.

If any of these belong to you, please note that they will be in the Parents Room next to the outdoor blue basketball court (near the Elementary Library) till the end of this month.
