PIPER-HEIDSIECK the exclusive champagne of the Oscars®

Hollywood, California (February 4th, 2015): The revered French Champagne House PIPER-HEIDSIECK, known worldwide for the red of its label and the gold of its wine, will be serving 1500 bottles, including its prestigious Vintage cuvees Rare 2002 and Rare 1988, to guests at this year’s 87th Academy Awards® ceremony on February 22 at the Dolby Theatre® in Hollywood. Founded in 1785, PIPER-HEIDSIECK, one of France’s oldest Champagne houses, will celebrate the grand moments of emotion only cinema can bring. In total, almost half of the 1500 bottles poured at Academy Awards events will be PIPER-HEIDSIECK Cuvée Rare.

“We are proud to celebrate the exceptional moments of this evening with PIPER-HEIDSIECK Prestige Cuvee, Rare,” said Cécile Bonnefond, President and CEO of PIPER-HEIDSIECK at the Oscars Governors Ball preview press conference held today at the Ray Dolby ballroom. “This cuvee is created only in particular and ‘out of the ordinary’ years. This is the reason why there are only 8 vintages since 1976. It is a Cuvee with a special destiny, so unique it can only be called Rare.”

Served before the start of the ceremony in the lobby bars of the Dolby Theater®, PIPER-HEIDSIECK’s red label Cuvée Brut will be poured, from Jeroboam to Magnum, to celebrate the greatness of the event. The Brut is classic, structured, full-bodied and bursting with fruit. The blend is elaborated each year by Cellar Master Regis Camus, named “Sparkling Winemaker of the Year” eight times over the past ten years. He works with more than 100 crus to reproduce each year this unique taste in Champagne.

PIPER-HEIDSIECK’s bold Cuvée Rosé Sauvage will be poured during the Governors Ball, the Academy’s official post-Oscars celebration. A blended Rosé is added to the great PIPER-HEIDSIECK Cuvée Brut classic blend creating structured, full-bodied Champagne with more than just a hint of red fruits and elaborated with a majority of Pinots Noirs.

Rare 2002 will also be served at the Governors Ball. Delicate and voluptuous with subtle notes of exotic fruits and mild spices, this vintage is elaborated with a majority of Chardonnays from the Montagne de Reims region (70%) and complemented with Pinot Noir (30%) from the same region. The wine is a blend of 17 crus, which matured for over seven years in the House's cellars. Acclaimed by professionals with a rating of 97/100 by Wine Spectator, the 2002 vintage is synonymous with richness and generosity.

Served in exclusivity at the Governor-s Ball in the Oscar® statuette engraving room will be the Rare 1988. A sophisticated, complex and warm wine, the Rare 1988 will be on hand to celebrate an exceptional moment of emotion with this year’s Academy Award® winners. With an initial attack bursting with flavor, it is a powerful yet elegant and highly stylish wine. The velvety texture of cocoa beans and mocha gives way to more powerful notes of dried fruit, hazelnuts and dried currants. The aroma of plants and herbs, peppered with hints of eucalyptus and sandalwood, combines with the delicious taste of roasted pineapple.

The 87th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

A Grand & Bold Story with the Grand Cinema

From the early 1930s, the house has long supported the grand cinema with boldness and grandeur. In 1964, PIPER-HEIDSIECK created a tailor-made 48-liter bottle to celebrate Rex’s Harrison’s Oscar for his role in MY FAIR LADY. PIPER-HEIDSIECK was also present at the Oscars ®in 1990, 91, 92 and 1998.

In order to support the enrichment and preservation of film heritage, PIPER-HEIDSIECK works with the French Cinémathèque and the American Cinémathèque. It has also been the official champagne of the International Cannes Film Festival for more than 20 years.
