Nuet Aquavit Mentioned As A World's First By London Spirits Competition

A World's First
 The coveted London Spirits Competition recommended three Norwegian gins on their website yesterday. However, one of the gins isn't actually a gin at all. It is the Nuet Dry Aquavit, which is a modern take on the quintessentially Scandinavian spirit that is aquavit. The spirit has been developed as a combination of the best from almost 500 years of Scandi tradition and modern thinking, and the end result is, according to LSC, "the world's first aquavit that serves as a proper premium gin substitute". 

Standing Out From The Gin Crowd
 The competition team goes on to describe the flavours of this unique aquavit: "Grapefruit peel and blackcurrant give Nuet Dry Aquavit a citrusy fresh taste, a nice viscosity, and a smooth finish, whilst the subtle caraway influence makes it stand out from the gin crowd". A much need breath of fresh air and newness, in a market overflowing with new gin types.

Too Delicate?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Founder of the Norwegian startup Nuet Aquavit, Morten Pharo Halle, explains how pioneering a completely new category of spirits (super premium aquavit) can be both challenging and rewarding, as they will often be compared to traditional aquavits, which are powerful strong spirits without the delicate notes of the Nuet team's breakthrough product: "We've spent lots of time and effort into making a product unlike anything ever seen before on the spirits market, so it's of course great to get recognition like this. However, it's always easy, when you really have no comparables. In the IWSC and LSC we entered our product into the gin category, but was moved to the aquavit category by the judges. We also received bronze in both competitions, which we weren't too chuffed about. When we asked why we got such a "low" score (we of course thought we deserved a gold), the feedback we got from IWSC was that it simply too delicate, which made me laugh. It's the best negative feedback I've ever gotten!".
