Arla achieves a smooth flow of milk transports with PreCom

To ensure that the distribution of milk among Arla’s dairies is managed smoothly and efficiently, and that production resources are utilized in the best way possible, Arla has invested in a new planning system based on the PreCom platform from PocketMobile.

Arla’s many dairies need assured access to raw materials to guarantee production and optimize resources. To achieve this, Arla needs the distribution among its dairies to be planned centrally, with a real-time overview of resources, transports and demand. The objective of this planning is constant control of raw material access and the ability to guarantee that the raw materials always end up where they are needed.

To extend and improve its central planning, Arla’s planning system has been integrated into a new mobility solution based on PocketMobile’s PreCom platform.

Orders and reports directly from the trucks
With the new solution, the drivers can receive and send transport orders from the trucks in real time, with this information completely integrated into the central planning system. The drivers receive daily route information and orders directly via their handheld computers and can report deliveries and volumes, as well as arrival times, waiting times and interruptions in real time. The new solution will allow Arla to optimize the use of raw materials and production resources because the milk will always be delivered where it is needed.

“We will now be able to optimize our use of raw materials in a much better way, which allows us to keep the production significantly closer to maximum capacity,” explains Karsten Grønhøj, GCO of Planning & Allocation at Arla Foods.
