Planmeca CALM™ receives Innovation 2017 honorary mention

The dental industry Innovation award will once again be handed out at this month’s Finnish Dental Congress and Exhibition in Helsinki, Finland. The award and accompanying honorary mentions are given to companies or associations which have developed a product, service or technology that has significantly improved treatment, patient safety or the working conditions of the dentist.

The Planmeca CALM™ algorithm solves the challenge of movement artefacts in CBCT imaging

The new Planmeca CALM™ algorithm has received the Innovation 2017 honorary mention. Patient movement during CBCT acquisition is one of the biggest contributors to poor image quality, since a 3D image is constructed from slices. Planmeca CALM™ cancels the effects of patient movement, so that retakes and unnecessary radiation caused by them can be avoided. Planmeca is the first company in the dental industry to introduce such an algorithm. Planmeca CALM can be applied after image acquisition, but it can also be selected preventively before exposures. The algorithm is excellent for imaging child patients or otherwise lively patients. Not only does it save time for clinicians but also protects patients from unnecessary exposure.
