Löfbergs awarded for its sustainability work

Löfbergs is once again being acknowledged for its sustainability work. This time, Scandic is handing out its sustainability award to the family-owned coffee roaster. Löfbergs’s sustainability manager Eva Eriksson received the Scandic Sustainability Award 2018 at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden.

- It is incredibly honouring of course! We want to be a responsible supplier that helps our customers reach their sustainability goals. The award demonstrates that Scandic values our work and that means a lot to us, says Eva Eriksson.

Löfbergs and Scandic have been working together for almost 20 years, and the sustainability aspect has been incorporated for just as long. The two companies offered organic and Fairtrade labelled coffee early on, but the cooperation has also been about other matters, for example climate-smart packaging. In 2017, Löfbergs and Scandic developed a plant-based and climate-neutral coffee package, made mainly out of sugar canes.

- The relationship between Scandic and us is a good example of customer and supplier developing together. That is how it has been for all the years we have worked together. It has been great for us, for coffee farmers all over the world and for the environment, says Eva Eriksson.

Historic recipient
The Scandic Sustainability Award is presented to a supplier or a partner with prominent, clear, measurable and explicit sustainability work. Löfbergs is a historic recipient of the newly established award with the motivation:

“The good flavour is something that the coffee roaster Löfbergs has been working on since 1906. Taking responsibility for people and the environment has been a matter of course for just as long. Löfbergs’s sustainability work extends over the entire value chain – from bean to cup. With specific sustainability goals – financial, environmental and social – and often as a pioneer and a forerunner, Löfbergs is a driving force for a more sustainable world.”

Scandic is the largest Nordic hotel operator with a network of close to 280 hotels with about 55,000 hotel rooms in six countries. Scandic is a pioneer within the sustainability area and the majority of Scandic’s hotels are certified in accordance with Nordic Ecolabel’s new requirements.
