Launching API With 600 Million Phone Numbers

Today, the Truecaller API is released to handpicked developers allowing them to access its database with over 600 million names and phone numbers - including landline, mobile and pre-paid numbers from all over the world. Spam score and True score helps companies to verify if the number is in use and not connected to scams.

Stockholm, Sweden - May 22, 2013: Today Truecaller, the world’s largest collaborative phone directory, released its API to handpicked developers. Truecaller’s collaborative directory contains 600 million numbers that Truecaller has collected with help from its users. Thanks to this collaborative data solution, the directory is growing and being updated continuously. It also contains numbers that no other directories have, e.g. pre-paid phones, which gives developers quality data to work with.

Alan Mamedi, CEO and co-founder of Truecaller explains, “Among many other scenarios, the Truecaller API could be used to save time in call centres. Each call centre minute is connected to a cost. By using our API, both local and global, call centres can identify who is calling even before starting the call. Win-win.”

The API allows for reverse number lookup, which means that the developers can attach a name to a known number. It also returns a “Spam score” to indicate if the number is a likely spammer (telesales or robocalls) and a “True score” to indicate how important the number is.

Scrive, a leading cloud e-signing company is one of the companies who have been trying the Truecaller API. Scrive is using the Truecaller API as one of the important parameters in their e-signing process. "With Truecaller's API we are able to more accurately validate the identity behind a phone number. Much more accurately than is possible with any other phone number registry out there." says Lukas Duczko, CEO at Scrive.

Truecaller handpicks developers that are in line with Truecaller's mission and supplies value to their users. Truecaller will not consider telemarketing companies for any access to their API. The API does not include name search, which will remain a mobile app feature only.

Truecaller uses 3scale, the creator of Out-of-the-Box API management infrastructure, to launch, manage and productize the Truecaller API.
