Projectplace launches Social Project Management Manifesto

Today, Swedish online collaboration tool Projectplace launched the “The Projectplace Way” manifesto, a document that combines the company’s long-time vision with emerging trends in the field, leading the way to the next generation of project management.

2010 has been a milestone year for Projectplace, in which the company has introduced a range of landmark features and products supporting the Social Project Management way of working. Inspired by the beliefs of Scrum and Agile, Social Project Management has emerged over a short period of time and is now beyond a doubt challenging traditional project management structures. A new focus on communication and social collaborative tools has lead to a rapid paradigm shift by bringing collaboration to the core of project management. With those beliefs in mind, Projectplace has released a manifesto that outlines the core of present and future project management and how the best possible outcome of a project can be achieved.

“Since the early days of Projectplace, we have had a vision of what we wanted project management to be like. Due to recent technological developments, the time felt right to formulate this in a manifesto,” said Mattias Hällström, Projectplace Founder and Director of R&D. “We are convinced that the way we work in projects will change even more dramatically within the next few years. Projectplace provides a flexible tool that adapts to those changes, built on the notions outlined in the Projectplace Way manifesto.”

Project management appeared to have been immune to changes for decades. Now, new technologies allow for major improvements that make project work more efficient. According to the Projectplace Way manifesto, projects are more likely to succeed when they create trust by encouraging open communication and transparent information sharing. For Projectplace, the cornerstones for a successful project therefore are:

  • Collaboration, communication and commitment
  • Transparent information sharing
  • Social media-inspired tools
  • Intuitive and easy-to-use features

“We believe that trust is critical in projects and communication is key to establishing it,” said Mattias Hällström. “Success is achieved when project members learn to align and connect their own interests with each other’s and with those of the project.”

The four cornerstones of the manifesto did not solely derive from a company’s vision, but also reflect trends within the field of project management such as Agile project management. The philosophy behind The Projectplace Way, Agile and Social Project Management is the belief that collaboration is at the heart of project management.
