Out of 400 companies, the digital music distributor Record Union, is now one of the finalists in Serendipity Challenge that is going on during the political week “Almedalsveckan” in Sweden. Together with six other companies Record Union is pitching to win “Startup of the year” or “Growth company of the year” – the later one in focus for Record Union. Behind the Serendipity Challenge is the investment management and technology service firm Serendipity Group, founded in 2004.
- This is a great acknowledgement for the work we have done so far, but also a great incentive for us when developing our business further. When Record Union was founded 10 years ago, we were seen as pioneers within the music industry, but we are well aware that a distribution model will not let us maintain that position. We have long known that the distribution model is changing and that the value in distribution itself will disappear when more players are entering the market, says Johan Svanberg, CEO Record Union.
- By combining our love and understanding for music with technical and data driven solutions, we’re aiming at strengthening the independent music community by creating better conditions for independent artists to compete with major label signed artists on fair terms. Since the start, our goal has been to make the music industry more democratic, accessible and transparent for the many, not just the few, by breaking down different barriers, says Johan Svanberg.
Serendipity Challenge is a yearly entrepreneur contest and tech arena, open for all Nordic startup and growth companies. The contest aims to expose entrepreneurship and to give entrepreneurs a possibility to showcase their company on a national arena. It also aims to build Sweden as a country for innovative future companies that changes, improves and develops their respective industries on a global level, but also to connect entrepreneurs with company leaders, investors, politicians and potential collaboration partners.
- I’m impressed by the broadness and the rapid growth rate that the participating startup and growth companies shows. One clear trend is that the companies at an early stage have attached themselves to important strategic partners and customers, which help accelerate the maturity ahead of coming phases. Many companies have in a short time succeeded in establishing themselves in several markets and in creating a strong position for further expansion. This year’s final field is the broadest and growth-strongest so far, Omid Ehlasi, Founder and Competition Manager Serendipity Challenge.
The 2019 edition of Serendipity Challenge is going on between the 1st and 3rd of July, in Visby at the island Gotland outside Sweden, during the Swedish political week “Almedalsveckan”.
