Pressmeddelande -

The light trail for the 2015 Lights in Alingsås festival in Sweden is now finalised

    — This year's theme is the development of light, and the trail reflects this by creating a walk showing how Alingsås has developed over the years, says Project Manager Angelica Larsson.

All the points along the route have not been finalized yet, but the 2015 Lights in Alingsås trail itself has finally been decided - and it's already clear that it's going to be a beautiful walk. Starting at the Estrad Arena, the route goes along Gerdskastigen by the river to Lake Gerdsken and the Vimpeln building. From there the walk continues over the road and crosses Götaplan on the way back towards the centre.

    — You’ll be able to see both the older and newer parts of Alingsås - the railway, the E20 road and areas for future development. Yes, you can say that the light trail itself touches on the theme of development, says Angelica Larsson.

The light installations the visitors see along the way will tell the story of the evolution of light, showing the different ways it adapts itself to new times and takes new forms. — However, the installations won't follow a precise chronological order but instead they will all tell their own stories, says Angelica Larsson.

It has not yet been decided which team of designers will be responsible for each point on the trail, although the places themselves have been finalised. They are shown on the accompanying map. Locations of light installations include Vimpeln, along Gerdskastigen and beside Stampen's Mill.

    — We have had many great Lights in Alingsås, but I must say that I am particularly excited about this year's festival. It feels as if we have fantastic theme, a great light trail, and everything we need to make this year's light festival one of the best ever, adds Angelica Larsson.

She points out that there will also be a lot of focus on a “Park of the Future” for children in Järtas Park in central Alingsås - and that a number of other related events will also add excitement and colour. More about this, and information on where the design teams will be located will be available a little later this year. Now that the light trail has been finalized, the project is entering an intensive phase where the last pieces of this year's festival puzzle will soon fall into place.

Lights in Alingsås will run from 25 September to 1 November, 2015.

About Lights in Alingsås

Every October since the year 2000, leading lighting designers have been invited to Alingsås to demonstrate their expertise. For five weeks, dar evenings and outdoor environments are turned into fascinating and exciting lighting installations. Cold, anonymous facades are transformed into warm and colorful spaces, forest lakes can get a whole new perspective, and these oases of light provide new attractive venues in the town.

Lights in Alingsås attracts more than 85 000 visitors every year and the urban lighting exhibition has become the largest lighting event in public spaces in Northern Europe. Lights in Alingsås is an important meeting point for lighting designers, students and professionals who work with light. The owner of the project is the municipality of Alingsås, who make the project possible through partners such as Sparbanken Alingsås, Alingsås Energi, FABS and Alingsåshem.
