Travelling to IBC, Amsterdam

When writing this, we just landed in Shiphol on our way to most glorious International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam. IBC is a trade show for the media and broadcast industries; a major event, so the city will be brimming with people from around the world. We’re looking forward to four intensive days of meeting partners, customers and technology vendors.

It's a bit hard to find good hotels during IBC, so last year we put on our lucky hats and booked a house boat on a canal close to the conference centre. The boat itself turned out to be a wreck, it even came complete with ship rats, but the owners were nice and it was a fun thing to do. This year, the owners have built a sparkling new boat that we’ll be staying at. Very convenient.

Because of our interest in generating metadata from video, we’ll especially be scouting for technology providers of speech-to-text, face recognition and other kinds of content analysis. What we anticipate seeing is bigger screens, higher resolutions, cloudier services, and fiftieth screen applications.
