Speaker Announcement: Sanna Tomac, Artist

Creative Mornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types. Each event is free of charge, and includes a 20 minute talk, plus coffee!

Sanna Tomac, classical artist, co-founder and Artistic Director of The Swedish Academy of Realist Art, Atelier Stockholm (SARA) joins Creative Mornings Stockholm where she will speak on the global theme “Hidden” in a presentation of her painting commission to fill the unfinished Baroque ceiling of the Bååtska Palace of Stockholm, headquarters of the Swedish Order of Freemasons.

When the Bååtska Palace was constructed in 1662, one of the great halls was designed to exhibit a large ceiling mural surrounded by elaborate plaster decorations and reliefs. However, the space reserved for the painting, measuring 4 x 7 meters, was never filled. For nearly 400 years it remained empty and was one of the few original, unfinished Baroque palace ceilings in the world. Sanna completed the painting in February 2014 using only traditional materials and methods - no photographs or projects, only live models. She will talk about her process in completing this rare and visually stunning project.

Sanna studied drawing and painting at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy from 1996-1998 and afterwards with Odd Nerdrum in Norway. In 2001, she and her husband founded Pantura Studios in the United States before returning to Sweden in 2006 to establish SARA.
