Jazz to take over Brno
The festival will officially begin on April 4 at the Reduta Theatre with a performance by Czech band the Martin Brunner Trio and Epoque Quartet (who are likely to feature Morning Walks, their cycle of compositions for piano and string quartet) and the Craig Taborn Trio from the USA. The organisers worked really hard this year to secure some leading names from the world of jazz music such as the Brecker Brother Band, the American band Trio of OZ with their pianist Rachel Z, and drummer Omar Hakim who has worked with Sting, Madonna, Dire Straits and David Bowie among others. Among the Czech artists due to appear at the festival will be Dan Barta with the Robert Balzar Trio, and Gustav Brom´s Bigband with an Italian guest singer Roberto Gambarini.
“The core of the festival´s programme is yet again formed by musicians from jazz´s cradle - the USA. But apart from the American artists JazzFest features a wide range of musicians from 14 other countries,” says Programme Director Vilem Spilka from the organising agency 24-7 Promotions.
JAZZFESTBRNO will follow its traditional, tried and tested format of double concerts accompanied on selected days by night jam sessions. New for this year will be an exclusive series of music workshops accessible to the general public featuring musicians performing at the festival. Those who are interested in the art of improvisation will have a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience from musicians of jazz´s premier league.
The festival will conclude on April 30 with a performance by a super
trio consisting of organ player Brian Charette, Ondrej Stveracek and Dano Soltis plus Milos Suchomela´s Groove Sextet.
