Nu till helgen, den 5-7 juli, välkomnar vi för fjärde året i rad IRONMAN 70.3 till Jönköping. Evenemanget har vuxit för varje år och är ett självklart val för många triathlonatleter.

- Det är med god anledning IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping tilldelades första plats i kategorin ”Kommer att rekommendera till en vän” och fjärde plats i kategorin ”Total Cykelupplevelse” av Athletes Choice Awards 2018, skriver IRONMAN official.

I år är Jönköping dessutom särskilt stolta över att stå som värdstad för arrangemanget då ”European Triclub Championship” går av stapeln på IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping. 1 200 idrottare kopplade till 222 olika triathlonklubbar från över 50 länder kommer att tävla om första platsen i detta prestigefyllda mästerskap.

Historical showdown in Jönköping – 222 triclubs join the battle for the European Triclub Crown

IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping is known as a vibrant race. This year, additional atmosphere and camaraderiea are brought to the race, as Jonköping is host for the IRONMAN European TriClub Championship. 45% of the athletes are organized in triclubs and they will compete against each other in a historical showdown on July 7. In total, more than 2,750 athletes are racing at the sold out event.

Jönköping (July 2019) IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping has seen tremendous growth over the last four years. The race is a shining star and much appreciated by athletes. Jönköping offers a vibrant city pulse, beach life, nature on its doorstep, and the residents are known for delivering a magnificent athmosphere on race day. It is with good reason, IRONMAN 70.3 Jönkoping was awarded #1 Will Recommend To A Friend and #4 Overall Bike Experience by the Athletes Choice Awards 2018.

The race really showcases the beauty of Sweden and takes athletes on a one-loop 1.9km swim in Lake Munksjön located in the middle of the town surrounded by Jönköping's skyline, before heading onto a 90km bike course through the Swedish countryside with breath taking views of Lake Vättern. The 21.1km run course takes athletes into the heart of Jönköping, around lake Munksjön and back into the city for a true city centre celebration finish.

More than 2,750 athletes with 1,200 athletes organized in triclubs from over 50 countries will take down the battle in Jönköping. Sweden leads the athlete numbers with 73% as proud host destination followed by Germany with 4%, UK with 3%, Norway with 3%, and Netherlands with 2%.

45% of all athletes at the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping European Triclub Championship represent a Triclub with the majority coming from Sweden. Top 5 on number of athletes are Umara Sports Club, IK NocOut.se, Kalmar RC, Colting Borssén Triathlonklubb, and Stockholm City Triathlon. The athletes collect points for their club and the club with the most points based on their top 5 athletes in the race becomes the IRONMAN European TriClub Championship 2019.

Besides the European Triclub Championship, the start list reveals some of the biggest Swedish Pro Athletes, which proves the race is a choice of athletes. Spectators can look forward to seeing the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping winner, Lisa Norden, 2019 IRONMAN North American Champion, Patrik Nilsson, and Åsa Lundstrom.

”I’m very happy to be back in Jönköping. Last year, it was my first race back after an achilles operation and to be back winning on home soil was absolutely terrific. I have raced in Jönköping a couple of times and the crowd has always been the best. It is the best support and lifts me to another level”, Lisa Norden, Pro Athlete.

”IRONMAN 70.3 Jönköping is a race in the build up towards IRONMAN Hawaii in October. Thinking of my race in Elsinore, I believe my shape is good and I will do everything I can to let you see a Swedish male athlete on top of the podium”, Patrik Nilsson, Pro Athlete.

The festivities get underway from Friday July 5. Athlete Registration opens at 10:00 alongside the expo with free entrance to the public. At 14:00 at the Finish Line, there is a pro-panel and interviews with triclubs followed by Friday’s highlight starting at 15:00 – The Triclub Flag Parade. Nations’ and clubs’ colours will fly in the city center of Jönköping, when the parade walks through Jönköping downtown and ends at Rådhusparken.

In addition to the main event on Sunday, the weekend also features a side event for the youngest: IRONKIDS. It takes place Saturday July 6 at 16:00.
