Interview with Roger Holm, President Marine Business & EVP Wärtsilä Corporation.
Wärtsilä supports DSM19 as Main Sponsor. What contributed to make this decision?
DSM is a growing event filled with energy and excitement. We see it as an interesting platform for collaborating and co-creating to help solve the challenges related to topics like fuels, emissions, total CO2 footprint etc, which are on the agendas of shipowners and operators. The market is in a transformation mode and so is also Wärtsilä as we are looking for developing new services and solutions to support our customers meet their business targets.
We also want to share our vision towards the creation of a Smart marine ecosystem together with customers, partners and other stakeholders in the market.
What are your expectations for DSM19?
We expect to meet new and existing customers and partners and together explore ideas on how to bring the transformation of the business forward, while generating mutual earnings from the market we both operate in. And of course to enjoy the energetic atmosphere of the event.
This is the first time that I will participate personally in the DSM event, but I have heard very positive feedback from colleagues who attended in 2017; The weather, the positive energy and the number of interesting meetings.
What do you find are the opportunities and the biggest challenges in the Shipping Industry today?
The environmental challenge can also be an opportunity. If we by connecting the smart marine ecosystem can generate fuel savings, we can also then at the same time take down the emission levels.
How would you describe DSM in one word?
I will again quote my colleagues who have participated in the earlier events: Excitement.
And finally, do you prefer a sail or a motor boat for recreation, and why so?
I prefer a motorboat – I like the speed and I like engines!
