Extend and DB SCHENKERmarineparts solve complex logistic challenges worldwide

International shipping in the maritime industry follows a tight schedule. In order to function economically, ships can not stay in ports and wait for ordered parts. This means that shipping companies are dependent on their supply chain running efficiently.

DB SCHENKERmarineparts supplies spare parts to ships all over the world, and with Extends systems, both DB SCHENKER and the shipping companies can control the entire order flow.

In the maritime industry, transports are often complex and follow precise timeframes. Therefore, it´s important to find the fastest routes directly from the supplier to the vessels. For DB SCHENKER, Extend handles the flow of purchase orders of spare parts from the shipping company to the ship as well as between the supplier and the ship.

"By using Extend, both shipping companies and DB SCHENKER have full control of the order chain: where the ordered parts are, and if necessary, transfer them to a new location. The process is really complex and implies administrative challenges which Extend helps both the shipping companies and DB SCHENKER to solve, "says Martin Fransson, COO Extend.

In the latest version, Extends system also allows updating of the shipping companies' real-time business system with an API that updates purchase orders if delivery changes occurs.

If the vessel has to continue the route, the product is redirected to the vessel´s next port. The supplier is updated to ship the delivery to the new port, or DB SCHENKER supplies this and helps the shipping company to get ordered goods to the new location.
