Findwise joins the ORIOS project

Findwise has joined the ORIOS (Open Source software Reference Implementations for Open Standards) project. 

Findwise has since the company started, collaborated with universities and academia. Findwise has amongst many things, hosted more than 20 Master Thesis.

- We constantly try join Academia and Industry in joint efforts of commercialization and creation of new innovations and business models, because we want to deliver the best possible search based solutions to our customers. The ORION project aligns well with our strategy to be an active partner and contributor to the Open Source Community. As an previous example, we open sourced our content processing framework Hydra in May 2012.

For a lot of software scenarios, there is a lack of interoperability and a risk of technological lock-in. The use of Open Standards and Open Source Reference Implementations can reduce the risk of organisational lock-in, improve interoperability and stimulate innovation.

The ORIOS project is a collaborative research project running over three years, Findwise is one of the companies that has joined the project together with the University of Skövde. The project is financially supported by the Knowledge Foundation.

An overarching goal of this project is to improve understanding within organisations of Open Standards, Open Source Reference Implementations, and the ecosystems around them. This will be done by developing a reference model of necessary and desirable features of an Open Standard, and how Open Standards and their implementations can be utilised by small companies in different usage contexts.
