The Government and Parliament

Unlike in the past, employees should be able to reduce their working hours and salary with state support even when external events cause a temporary crisis at individual companies or industries, writes Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson together with the government and the center and liberal party in a debate article in Aftonbladet. An example of such an event could be the spread of the coronavirus.

The investigation that is the basis for the proposal came a year ago and the government has been criticized for not introducing it. In this proposal, the reduction in working hours will be 20, 40 or 60 percent of regular working hours and the salary reduction for the levels will be 12, 16 and 20 percent. The state is to bear one third of the costs during the period of support, which is normally six months.

The Minister of Finance has previously said that the proposal can be included in the spring budget at the earliest, which will come in mid-April.
