GKN Driveline to invest €10m in Köping, Sweden

The recent completion of GKN Driveline’s acquisition of Getrag’s driveline products business is already showing positive results:  After the recent BMW order for Power Transfer Units for the Mini Countryman, JaguarLandRover (JLR) has now placed an order for the all-wheel-drive system for the new Range Rover Evoque.  The new contracts have committed GKN Driveline to an investment of €10m in the Swedish facility during 2011.

During the autumn/winter of 2011, GKN Driveline’s Köping facility will achieve its highest production rate in the history of the plant.

The latest order from the Tata Motors-owned, iconic British 4x4 maker, covers AWD components including the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) as well as the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) for the new Range Rover Evoque.  GKN Driveline is already delivering AWD Systems for the Land Rover Freelander.

“Several customers are increasing their orders, but the Land Rover contract is significant for us.  We are very happy to be able to continue our successful co-operation which is a great success for everyone at the Köping plant ” said Lars Christiansson, managing director GKN Driveline Köping.

Increased demand for GKN Driveline products will also result in a recruitment campaign: designers, manufacturing engineers and experienced testing engineers are all now required.
