The Real Stevia Company, Granular AB, Welcomes Canada Approval
The Real Stevia Company is glad to share the positive news from Health Canada (The Canadian Department of Public Health) that steviol glycosides as of last week (November 30, 2012) are now approved as an additive in food and beverages.
Effective immediately, steviol glycosides is now officially a food additive in Canada and permitted to be used to sweeten food and drinks. For more detailed information about maximum use levels and for what product categories steviol glycosides are approved please read the full approval here.
The global market for stevia and steviol glycosides is growing rapidly and Canada is joining the steadily increasing number of countries that have already approved the natural sweetener, amongst others: Japan, China, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Israel, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, Paraguay, Russia, Singapore, the U.S. and the EU.
The Canadian market is comparatively small counted in population seize, but the large, strong and well educated segment of ACC’s, aware and caring consumers, makes it strategically important.
