Jason Diakité (Timbuktu) visits SSE Library Sessions

What is is like growing up as a black child in an all white society and how has the trauma of the African diaspora affected generations following?  In our live-streamed SSE Library Sessions, hip-hop artist, performer and author Jason Diakité, aka Timbuktu, talks to Lovisa Fhager Havdelin, Secretary General at Teskedsorden.

n 2016, Jason Diakité released his autobiography "En droppe midnatt", translated to English in 2019. "A Drop of Midnight" is a vivid and intimate journey through Diakité’s own and his family’s history — from South Carolina slavery to twenty-first century Sweden. In this live-streamed conversation with Lovisa Fhager Havdelin, Secretary General at Teskedsorden, Jason Diakité talks about growing up as a black child in an all white society and how generations have been affected by the trauma of the African diaspora, historically and to this day.

Jason Diakité, known as Timbuktu to the public, is a world renowned hip-hop artist, performer and author. He is a profiled civil rights defender, dedicated to fight racism and xenophobia and a board member of Teskedsorden. 

Lovisa Fhager Havdelin is Secretary General at Teskedsorden, a Swedish foundation engaged in an active dialogue to promote diversity. She has a Master in Political Science and Human Rights, is an appointed board member of WONSA (World Of No Sexual Abuse) and Advisor of the United Nations Foundation. 

SSE Library Sessions are a part of our Literary Agenda, in which students have the opportunity to meet important writers and gain new and wider perspectives on the world.

This online SSE Library Session will be live-streamed from the beautiful Library of the Stockholm School of Economics, in a collaboration between Teskedsorden, SSE Library, Natur & Kultur Literary Agenda and SSE Art Initiative.
