SSE students want to improve oral participation in the classroom by female students

Anja Tuneld and Athina Swahn have been awarded the Gun & Einar Larsson scholarship 2016 (GELS) for their project "Speak up! Solutions to symptoms of gender inequality".

The president of the Stockholm School of Economics, Lars Strannegård, who appointed the scholars, acknowledges that:

Anja Tuneld and Athina Swahn have created a challenging, hands-on project, with a strong focus on personal development. The decision to address oral participation in the classroom by female students is relevant to today’s society and opens a doorway to insights that are valuable for the Stockholm School of Economics.

“We are incredibly honored and happy to have received this scholarship! The fact that we, as well as other female students, does not raise our hands in the classroom, is something that has marked our schooling. That is why we are so excited to finally get this opportunity to be a part of the solution. Through our project, we will develop simple tools and methods that will help teachers create a classroom environment where every student will have the courage to speak up! says Athina Swahn and Anja Tuneld

The Gun and Einar Larsson Scholarship offers outstanding students at Stockholm School of Economics the opportunity to create and realize innovative projects abroad according to their own design. The aim of the scholarship is to offer experience and personal development outside of the academic realm that benefits the student’s education and professional aspirations.
