Borås Students International Trendsetters

Last September they showed their graduation collections at the prestigious London Fashion Week. Now the work of the students at the Swedish School of Textiles has been discovered by international trend agency WGSN, which has written about how the Swedes guide in the trend jungle.

“I think the students create trends rather than interpret or follow them,” says Cassie Fitzpatrick, student editor at WGSN. “I am genuinely convinced that the most inspiring graduates in the world right now are from Scandinavia.”

London-based trend agency WGSN has reports from graduation collections from all over the world on its website, and commends the ‘original coolness’ of the Borås students. Among the five selected favourites is Stina Randestad, whose collection is described as mad, cool and completely excentric.

“Every student’s collection is innovative and very exciting! I find their inspiration fascinating and it is particularly interesting to see how their initial ideas have been transformed into ready-to-wear clothing,” says Cassie Fitzpatrick.

Pia Mouwitz is assistant head of education at the fashion design education at the Swedish School of Textiles and she thinks that exposure through WGSN is very valuable.

“Those who work here at the university want to create conditions for our fashion students to develop individually, with a unique expression and content. The fact that WGSN now spotlights our students means recognition from one of the most prominent actors in the business. For those who work at the Swedish School of Textiles and for our students, it is also a clear sign that we are part of a very of-the-moment sphere in fashion. What our students create works not only in Sweden, but globally.”

WGSN is one of the biggest trend spotters in fashion and textiles. It targets a broad international audience and cooperates with the biggest actors in fashion, with customers like Levi Strauss & Co., Adidas and the Benetton Group.
