Expansion Accelerated for Hydro66 – announcing 8 MW available from Q3 2018 in 19 MW facility

Boden, Sweden - 8th June 2018. The demand for more efficient ways to process and store data shows no sign of abating, and companies are finding enhanced ways to scale outside of traditional city center locations. Hydro66 announced today that they are increasing the available customer power in their HPC colocation datacenter in Sweden from 11 MW to over 19 MW.

Hydro66, the largest HPC colocation datacenter in the Nordics, has been pioneering the message of clean green power at hyperscale and is pleased to announce the continuing expansion of their award-winning facility. During Autumn 2018 Hydro66 will make available 1000 square meters - 8 MW and 400 racks - of IT space for HPC apps such as AI, rendering and hashrate services.

“This time last year we announced our intention to build out our greenfield colocation datacenter to 11 MW. At the time, this represented a trebling in size of our purpose-built facility in Boden, Northern Sweden. We are delighted to state that we have completed this expansion on time, on budget and with new customers fully occupying the space.” says Hydro66 CEO Anne Graf.

Situated on a 41 MW site beside a 120 MW substation in Boden, Sweden, Hydro66 currently has 11.2 MW deployed at 100% utilization – and are now announcing a further 4 MW coming live in September 2018 and 4 MW early in Q4. This completes the Phase 1 build out of the site, with planning for Phase 2 at an advanced stage.

“We have built a diversified customer base by developing extreme power density at hyperscale. We are very happy to see new and existing clients growing rapidly to completely sell out our 11 MW data center. This new capacity of 8 MW will add confidence that Hydro66 can accommodate our client’s growth plans.” adds Hydro66 Chief Commercial Officer Paul Morrison.

The main drivers for companies to move their data into 3rd party datacenters are cost and scalability. HPC app users like the hashrate services, automotive modelling, driverless cars, Artificial Intelligence, mapping, weather simulation line up for space with companies like Hydro66, attracted by grid resilience and an approximate 50% cost reduction compared to legacy datacenters.

Hydro66 clients are power intensive app users from enterprises in a variety of industries. Increasingly this includes HPC solution providers who see great economic and operational potential from tailoring their own solutions via Hydro66 – all while being ready to expand rapidly with short lead times.
