Andreas Bäckman fourth best in TCR Europe 2019
At the Monza track in Italy this weekend the TCR Europe finals was held, where the Bäckman siblings experienced both speed difficulties and braking problems. Andreas Bäckman ended up at a 4th place overall in the championship, while Jessica Bäckman reached 19th place.
This weekend, the finals of the 2019 edition of the European championship TCR Europe was held. The seven events of the season have taken place on numerous of famous tracks, such as the Hockenheim in Germany and the Red Bull Ring in Austria, and ended at "The Temple of Speed"; the Monza track in Italy. Siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman went into the weekend with their typical fighting spirit. Tough competition awaited, which gave them more experience.
– The weekend started off well with fast lap times in the free practice and I had the speed to be in the top three. Unfortunately, in the qualifying we did not bring the same speed so I only reached 12th place, but entering the race I finally got my speed back again. Even though a number of incidents occurred, I gave everything to end the season in the best way. This led me to a final 4th place in the championship, Andreas Bäckman says.
The siblings sum up this season
For Jessica, this weekend's competition was tougher.
– For me, the weekend started off well with a 6th place during the first practice. Unfortunately I also had problems with my car during qualifying and I lost a lot of speed while not getting the perfect lap time. In both races I got to start far behind and after having major braking problems during the first race, I managed to climb ten places in the second race. It felt good, Jessica Bäckman says.
When the siblings sum up the championship, they are satisfied with the experience they have gained and also having succeeded in surpassing both their own and the expectations of others.
– We would also like to take the opportunity to really thank the Target Competition team and the Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing team for all the fantastic support during this year, Andreas says.
Next up is the FIA Motorsport Games in Vallelunga, Italy in about three weeks for Jessica Bäckman.
