Racing siblings Backmans receive support from HMSG
A & J Backman have been selected by Hyundai Motorsport to be part of their new Customer Racing Junior Driver initiative that support young racing drivers.
– Considering the fact that we’ve only competed for one season in the TCR and in racing in general, we are truly honored that Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing believes in us, Andreas Backman says.
Launching the Customer Racing Junior Driver initiative, Hyundai Motorsport will support promising racing talents through mentoring, training and media coaching by known experts, such as 2018 WTCR Series winner Gabriele Tarquini. Five young drivers have been selected, including Swedish racing siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman.
– For the first season of the Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Junior Driver initiative we have selected an extremely talented group of drivers, and I am excited to help support them. Each of them has the potential to be a race winner. I am sure that with our support they can have an excellent 2019 and continue their excellent progress in their racing careers, until we see them winning with Hyundai in FIA WTCR, Hyundai Motorsport Team Director Andrea Adamo says.
Racing siblings with an aim to win
Andreas and Jessica Backman will drive the Hyundai i30 N TCR racing cars in TCR Europe during the 2019 season, and they are predicted to keep being as successful as their history implies. Last year, Andreas reached 3rd place in the TCR UK Championship with one race win at Croft, Leicestershire. Jessica ended up 4th and became the first woman in the UK and second woman in the world to score a podium in a TCR championship race.
– It feels super exciting to be one of the few chosen racing drivers in the Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Junior Driver initiative. Considering the fact that we’ve only competed for one season in the TCR and in racing in general, we are truly honored that Hyundai Motorsport believes in us, Andreas Backman says.
– The opportunity also gives us the best possible conditions in order to develop as drivers and eventually reach our goal: to compete in FIA WTCR, Jessica Backman says.

De har genom åren tävlat i stora förarmästerskap som STCC, Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, och den brittiska motsvarigheten TCR UK, med fantastiska framgångar som resultat. Under 2019 tävlar syskonen i prestigefyllda TCR Europe tillsammans med det flerfaldigt prisbelönta, italienska teamet Target Competition. Syskonens tävlingsbilar är varsin Hyundai i30 N TCR.
