Bordering by design – Open School lecture with post doc researcher Mahmoud Keshavarz

Welcome to Konstfack Wednesday 27 March, 4.30 – 6 pm in Svarta Havet

Borders are everywhere. Yet, not all of them are seen and sensed as borders for many. They are designed to be more visible and more violent for certain bodies on the move. From the artefact of the passport to the spectacle of border transgressing, and from humanitarian design initiatives to the techniques of border control, this lecture brings forward different instances of how borders operate through material, visual and technical practices and how they can be possibly dismantled through the same capacity of design.

Mahmoud Keshavarz is a postdoctoral researcher at the Engaging Vulnerability Research Program, Uppsala University. He is the author of The Design Politics of the Passport: Materiality, Immobility and Dissent, co-founder of Decolonizing Design Group and co-editor of the journal Design and Culture.

No registration needed, the lecture is free and open for all.
